What are a driving instructors prospects?

Becoming a driving instructor leads to a rewarding career. You're your own boss, working where and when you want with a new car every three or four years. Sound great doesn't it. Well it is. The more you work the more you earn. On average a good driving instructor will generate 40 hours of driving tuition per week from approximately 25 pupils on his/her books.

The average price for driving lessons in the South is £20 per hour so that's an income of over £700 per week gross. So there is every incentive to undergo training to become a driving instructor. Of course there are expenses, and like every other form of business, the Chancellor unbegrudgingly takes his cut!

The demand for driving lessons is increasing. Last year approximately 2 Million driving test were conducted in the UK with only 30'000 driving instructors to bring candidates up to standard. So, as you can see, there is a shortage. This shortage is only going to get worse as the proposals for a tough new driving test come into force and the number of migrants from Europe and elsewhere increase all wanting to take to our roads. Many more people are needed to start training to become a driving instructor.
